Interviewing at NI is a very thorough process because we want to make sure that we’re a good match for you as much as you are for us. Here are a few thoughts that can help you in your interviews with NI or other potential employers.
Be Specific. When you’re asked a question about a particular situation, be specific in your response. You should be able to list the actions that you took and how the situation was resolved. The same goes for questions that aren’t that specific, like “Why do you like bananas?” A detailed and coherent answer gives the interviewer the best chance to understand what you’re saying.
Take Your Time. Interviewers are looking for the best response, not the first response that comes to mind. When you’re asked a question, think about the response that can clearly illustrate your abilities and attitudes. If the best response doesn’t come to mind immediately, don’t be afraid to tell the interviewers that you’re thinking of the best example and need to take a moment.
Do Your Research. When you’re interviewing for any job, you should do your homework about the company and the type of work you’re interviewing for. Interviewers want to see that you’re interested in the work that you’ll be doing, and that requires a basic understanding of what that work entails. For you, a basic understanding of your potential employer can be the difference between applying or not applying.
